Laurie A. Derechin - Founder/President and CEO, Director
Laurie A. Derechin has over twenty five years of business and entrepreneurial leadership experience including seventeen years
of management positions at Xcel Energy, a Fortune 500 firm based in Minneapolis. She was a Founder of Seren Innovations, the
broadband cable subsidiary of Xcel Energy formed in 1996. Derechin was responsible for building the company's customer base
from zero to 47,000 subscribers in 6 years with a market share of over 50% in a highly competitive market, averaging more
than two services per subscriber (video, internet and phone). As Vice President of Business Development and Operations at
Seren, Derechin established Seren's operating structure and ran the day-to-day business including: Network Operations/Engineering,
Product Development, Customer Service, Sales/Marketing, Billing and Information Technology. As Vice President of Sales, Marketing
and Products, Derechin focused the company on a cross functional approach to growing and maintaining its customer base. She
was instrumental in helping the company achieve top customer satisfaction ratings (JD Powers/ACSI). In addition to her leadership
roles at Seren, Ms Derechin held customer operations, product development, marketing and mergers/acquisitions positions at
Pillsbury, Northern States Power and Xcel Energy, where among other assignments, she managed an $80 million consumer products
line, ran commercial and industrial energy conservation programs and worked on energy mergers and acquisitions teams in Australia
and Milwaukee. Early in her career, Laurie developed her entrepreneurial spirit by launching her own Business English Teaching/Translating
service for Spanish and Latin American executives in Spain. Derechin has a BA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and
an MBA from ESADE, Barcelona, Spain.
Beatrice Rothweiler - Founder/EVP - Corporate Development and General Counsel, Director
Beatrice A. Rothweiler brings strong corporate development and entrepreneurial skills to Great River. She has served as a
strategic business and legal advisor as well as investor for over 25 years with numerous emerging companies, on their strategic
high growth initiatives including organizing new businesses, making acquisitions and exits. Ms. Rothweiler is a fund manager
of Portage Equity Investments II LP, an early stage venture capital seed fund that has invested in media, software, high tech
and med tech companies that reflect its Central US focus. August Technology [AUGT], a semiconductor inspection company, and
Iconoculture, www.iconoculture.com , a technology enabled service provider of consumer market research, are two of the successful
companies she has advised and invested with. In her legal career as a partner with a major Twin Cities law firm, Larkin, Hoffman,
she focused almost sixteen years of practice on corporate transactions, domestically and internationally as well as advising
clients on business and legal issues affecting their growth. Rothweiler has been active in organizations such as MN Venture
Capital Association, and the MN Chapter of National Association of Women Business Owners (Past President). In 1991 Rothweiler
received the Minnesota Women in Business Advocate of the Year from the US Small Business Administration. She has also served
on the SBA District Advisory Council and in 1996 was a Minnesota delegate to the White House Conference on Small Business.
She has a BA from the University of Minnesota and a law degree from Hamline University, St. Paul, Minnesota.
David Bryant - Founder/VP, Marketing, Sales and Products
David Bryant has spent nine years in the telecommunications industry working closely with cable and telephone companies. Through
his work with top cable/telecom direct sales and marketing firms he has gained strong hands on experience. He has helped both
start up and established cable and phone companies achieve their aggressive market penetration goals. He has managed sales
and marketing projects for: Charter Communications, Seren Innovations, Metrocast Cablevision, Grande Communications, and Qwest
Communications. He is a skilled "on-the-ground" sales and marketing leader, who has managed many sales teams. He
has extensive front line experience in promoting and selling the broadband bundle and motivating sales and marketing teams
to execute on their goals. He has lengthy experience working cooperatively with Customer Service, Network Operations and Product
Development in the launch of new broadband products and the growth of existing product lines and triple play services. Having
grown up in a family that has worked in the cable/telecommunications industry for 30 years, Mr. Bryant has a deep knowledge
of the industry and a keen understanding of the evolving broadband marketplace. Mr. Bryant has a Bachelor of Business Administration
in Marketing from the University of North Texas, Denton, Texas.
Craig Anderson - Industry Expert, Director
Craig Anderson has more than 30 years of business and financial experience.
Over the last 20 years, Mr. Anderson has been a pioneer and strategic player in the telecommunications industry. As CEO and
Chairman of PrairieWave Holdings, Inc, he organized the acquisition of Dakota Telecommunications operations from McLeodUSA,
raised approximately $200 million in debt and equity financing and doubled its size through the acquisition of Black Hills
FiberCom. Prairie Wave expanded from nine small Incumbent Local Exchange Carrier (ILEC) communities in 1996 to 14 ILEC communities
and 37 Competitive Local Exchange Carrier (CLEC) markets in Southeastern South Dakota, Northwestern Iowa and Southwestern
Minnesota. Under Anderson's direction, PrairieWave became a broadband triple play provider. Prior to PrairieWave, Anderson
held various senior management positions, including President of Dakota Telecommunications, an ILEC where he executed the
conversion of the company from a cooperative to a publicly traded company. He was also a Director, Vice President-Chief Financial
Officer, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of DialNet, Inc., which in 1989, was the seventh largest long distance company
in the United States before it was sold to LDDS (now MCI). Mr. Anderson is currently advising a variety of clients through
his firm, Anderson Consulting.
Jim Gamble - Founder/Industry Expert, Director
Jim Gamble has more than 30 years of business experience. Over the past twenty years, Mr. Gamble held many senior management
positions at Xcel Energy. His most recent role at Xcel, was Vice President at Seren Innovations, in charge of corporate
strategy/business development, operational planning, information technology, customer service operations, billing, regulatory
and human resources. Prior to his work in the energy and broadband sectors, Mr. Gamble held marketing and information systems
positions at Control Data (Ceridian), West Publishing and Coast to Coast. Gamble has a BA in History and MA in Geography
from the University of Minnesota, an MBA from the University of St. Thomas, and Strategic Management Certificate from Stanford
University. Mr. Gamble is currently a strategic consultant to a consortium of energy companies working on getting legislative
approval to build a new power plant in the Upper Midwest.
John Bergstrom - Founder/Finance & Governance Advisor, Director
John Bergstrom is a Partner in RiverPoint Investments, Inc., in St. Paul, MN. RiverPoint advises their clients on financial,
organizational, fund-raising, strategy and governance matters. Mr. Bergstrom's practice is focused on publishing, media, marketing,
education and information services businesses. He is currently a board member of Dolan Media Company (NYSE:DM), Peoples Educational
Holdings (NASDAQ:PEDH), Tecmark Inc., Instrumental Inc., Linkup Inc. and Credible Information Company LLC. For 10 years prior
to forming RiverPoint in 1995, Bergstrom was with Cherry Tree Ventures, a Twin Cities-based venture capital management firm.
He is a graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College with a B.A. in Economics and an M.B.A from the University of Minnesota.
Brad Zuehlke - Strategic Technical Consultant
Brad Zuehlke has spent 28 years in telecommunications. Mr. Zuehlke was Chief Technology Officer and VP, Broadband Engineering,
Construction & Operations at Seren Innovations. Prior to joining Seren Innovations, Zuehlke held several leadership positions
at Xcel Energy covering both Utility Operations and Information Services dating back to 1985. Mr. Zuehlke managed several
telecommunications activities within the U.S. Department of Justice and served with distinction as an officer in the U.S Army
Signal Corps at posts throughout the U. S. and Europe. Zuehlke received a BS, General Engineering, US Military Academy, West
Point, New York and an MBA from the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minnesota.
